Artwork outside school (Sonika)

As you can tell, I like varying my choice of media when doing artwork. This is most easily seen with the last picture (with the fish under the sea). I used watercolours to paint the fish and help distinguish between light and dark, and used pastels to make the seaweed much more prominent.

I also like using computers to make artwork, because I do quite like graphic design, and that I can use certain software fairly well.

The picture above is something I made on adobe illustrator. On Wednesday, we are having a no drive day, and I was asked to make a poster for it. I had remembered seeing a picture (quite a while ago) and it was the school's logo in a pair of bicycle wheels. I thought it was perfect for the occasion, and decided to recreate it :)

The design was made from scratch.

  1. Hi Sonika,
These are some really cool art pieces you have, I really like your watercolor pieces their colors really compliment the picture, also with the bike piece I find it really cool that you could make your school logos into the bike wheels, it really shows how your school cares about the environment enough to have a day where you don't drive. For your watercolor painting with the fish, the top of the background looks kind of grey, was that intended or did you not have time to paint that part?

    1. Hi Karim,

Thanks for the comment! It's nice to know that you like the artwork :)
As for the greyish background, I will admit that I did get a little bit lazy once I started to paint the background, and that is mostly the reason that it seems so dull (and I used fairly dirty water with my brush, I forgot to clean it out). It's also because to quality of my phone's camera is pretty bad, causing the colours to seem less vibrant than in person.

  2. Wow you seem to really like art! I think your flexibility with media will be helpful for you because it will lead you o being very successful with all kinds of art in the future. I love your painting of trees! It looks very interesting and is the same style I believe as the painting in the Chicago Art Institute called "A Sunday on La Grande Jatte" by Georges Seurat. He created the painting using very small dots and although you used larger dots in that painting I think it still is a similar style. A possible way ti challenge yourself in the future could be to try and recreate the painting using smaller dots and that may take more time but would help you work on precision. The multimedia piece of the fish really puts on display your artistic ability and is a great piece and I commend the decision to use pastel to make the seaweed more emphasized. Wonderful art!

    1. Hi Elena!

Thank you so much! As a matter of fact, I actually was trying to emulate A Sunday on La Grande Jatte (ou un dimanche à l'îlle de la grande jatte, si tu est français). The only concern I had, and the only obstacle I had to face was the time limit, as I would have loved to have made it more skilled and precise, however time didn't allow. I will say that it does sound like a great idea, and I will most definitely consider doing it later, perhaps during the summer holidays :)

  3. Hi Sonika!

Wow, you're really good at art! I think that because you know so many different art media, you can use all of your skills for future pieces. I especially like your water color piece, I can tell that you put a lot of thought in the texture and the colors. The texture behind the fish were painted on to make a watery background. I also think that you used a lot of cool colors that complimented each other. Also, for your graphic design, you can go very far using those skills. Were there any challenges while you made this piece?

  4. Hi Sonkia,

I really enjoyed the wonderful art pieces you have displayed upon us to see. I really liked your unique styles in the different categories from which you have placed. One of the favorite ones would be the water color piece, in which you have illustrated amazing fish under the ocean which is really awesome by the way! I especially liked how the texture on the fishes and the great balance of cool colors you have portrayed. I loved your art!
